2032 Olympics, the Florence-Bologna plan accelerates. Now a super promoting committee

Operative visit of the Emilian governor Bonaccini to Palazzo Vecchio. Mission to Rome to obtain full support from the Ministry of Sport

Olympics 2032, the dream doesn’t stop. Yesterday the mayor Dario Nardella and the newly re-elected governor of Emilia Romagna, Stefano Bonaccini, met in Palazzo Vecchio. This was an opportunity to talk about the projects in common between Tuscany and Emilia Romagna, perfect also for taking up the theme – dear to both of them – of the candidature on the Florence-Bologna axis for the 2032 Olympics.

“Stefano Bonaccini – said the mayor Nardella smiling – came to tell us how to win in Tuscany too”. A joke at the end of the meeting organized in Palazzo Vecchio that says a lot about the thread that binds the two administrators of the PD, both determined to have more and more voice on the national level.

A unscheduled, revealed the presence of Bonaccini in Florence. The Emilian governor, in fact, gave himself a brief appearance together with the first citizen in the hall of the thirteenth century, where yesterday morning the city council was in progress.

But in the mayor’s office, the hall of Clement VII, Nardella and Bonaccini talked about many topics, especially the possible synergies between Florence and Emilia-Romagna on various fronts. But the highlight of the meeting – they made no mystery of it – was the candidature for the 2032 Olympics. Even if the official statement made outside the Palace is dry: “Nardella and Bonaccini are working on the constitution of the promoting committee, and on March 5 they will meet the Minister of Sport Vincenzo Spadafora in Rome”.

And it is on the names of the possible participants in the Promoting Committee that yesterday the mayor and governor met trying to put together a parterre de rois worthy of the enterprise. But then both Nardella and the governor of Emilia have not given up the temptation to leave a signal by publishing a video on Instagram. “In Florence – says Bonaccini – to make the Olympics project concrete, to try to make a dream come true”.

The same concept was reiterated in a video recorded on the terrace of Palazzo Vecchio and posted on the social media by Mayor Dario Nardella. “Welcome Stefano in Florence and congratulations again for his beautiful victory”. Then an addition on the candidature for the 2032 games: “Help us”. The idea of nominating Florence and Bologna as venues for the 2032 Olympics came last September, to the mayor of Florence Dario Nardella. “I am convinced – Nardella explained – that this united candidacy could give great strength also economically to the Florence-Bologna Apennine axis. The Olympics are a tremendous driving force for both infrastructure and employment”. And that’s not all. “Florence and Bologna – argomentò – are the only two neighbouring metropolitan cities and the sum of the quality of the sports facilities already present makes them very competitive”. In short, swimming pools for swimming competitions, sports arenas, athletics stadiums. “The entire provincial territory – says Nardella – boasts good quality facilities”.

Among the supporters of the first hour, in addition to the co-signatories Virginio Merola and Stefano Bonaccini, mayor of Bologna and governor of Emilia Romagna, the former premier Romano Prodi also took to the field immediately convinced by the challenge of an Olympics spread throughout the country to “make the costs sustainable and without providing hyper-construction.
