What could happen if the US ban on Huawei and which prohibits the use of Google Mobile Services were to lapse? According to the words of an executive of the Chinese company, there will be no return to GMS.
We know that an “arm wrestling” has been going on for some time between Huawei and the US administration which led to a ban (then partially loosened ) in May last year regarding access to some technologies such as Google Mobile Services (GMS).
One of the first examples of what the future could be without Google Mobile Services (GMS) was Mate 30 Pro, which surprised us positively in our review. But what if shortly GMS were to become available again for the Chinese manufacturer?
Fei Wang gave an answer (head of Huawei’s Consumer Business Group in Austria). During a press conference, the company’s senior executive made it clear that Huawei would not intend to return to use Google Mobile Services (GMS) even if the US ban were cancelled.
The reason? A desire for independence from US politics and the decisions of “others”. The ban could be removed, but it is not said that in the future, it cannot return or suffer some commercial restrictions.
But not only! Also, the commitment made for some time with the developers to expand the proprietary app store (and related HMS services). Recall that this will not mean abandoning Android as an operating system (for example, for an alternative like HarmonyOS). Huawei will still rely on the open-source AOSP project to guarantee users an absolute continuity.
Update: Huawei has denied the news, stating that it is more than willing to go back to using Google Mobile Services.
