In 2018, the World Health Organization registered 18.1 million new cancer cases worldwide. The organization expects the figure to reach between 29 and 37 million cases by 2040.
The number of new cases of cancer will increase further in low- and middle-income countries (+ 81%, according to estimates).
The organization pointed out that the main reason for this is that these countries have allocated only limited health resources to combat infectious diseases and improve the health of mothers and children and that health services in these countries are not equipped to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer.
