When you love the ocean, it loves you right back.
These words are from Jason Borkland, marine life advocate, master diver, and content creator who combines all his passions to take an active role in saving the planet and its oceans.
Apart from that, he is also the owner of his family business, Heritage Body and Frame. It is a multiple-location collision repair facility specializing in the repair of high-end autos. Heritage has been in business since 1986 and currently holds certifications from Honda, Acura, Tesla, Kia, Nissan, Infiniti, and more. While his family business keeps him secure and stable, his passion for diving and marine conservation drives him with a purpose in life.
Jason became involved with the oceans as a PADI Divemaster, helping students in his spare time to learn the sport. This activity served to give birth to his passion for conservation which he today deems as his duty to spread to the masses.
According to Jason, it is absolutely impossible to experience the wonders of the underwater world without coming up with a profound feeling of reverence and an awakened conscience to protect nature. Conservation is the key to the survival of the planet, as we are all interconnected, and our survival is tied together. Without conscious efforts, research and education, it is impossible to participate in conservation activities to protect the marine ecosystem.
Studying marine ecosystems and leading research can provide policymakers with the evidence and data to improve ocean management and invest in marine conservation. There is no denying the fact that our oceans are slowly nearing the brink of destruction. A 2018 systematic analysis revealed that only 13% of the oceans of the world remain untouched by the damaging impacts of humanity.
When these facts dawned upon Jason, he decided to support the cause and volunteered his time and expertise to protect marine areas. His particular involvement with ocean conservation efforts through Fins Attached is truly remarkable, where he has worked hard to protect the oceans’ apex predators and ensure a balanced marine ecosystem in endangered areas. Having worked alongside scientists and marine biologists as a technical diver, he has been at the center of ground research. Today, he wants to use his experience, videography skills, and diving abilities to share the world’s precious resources with others and promote their protection.
Talking about his commitment to the cause of marine conservation and initiating debate around the matter, Jason sheds light on his ultimate goal, “I would hope to have a larger impact on the conservation community, eventually making a documentary about specific threats to the oceans. My goal is to eventually make an underwater documentary, following in the footsteps of Rob Stewart.”
